Job purpose

To program, set and run various multi axis CNC machines to specified instruction and using feedback from part measurements.

Manufacture of high precision complex components and assemblies.

Key responsibilities

    • To adhere to company values, policies, standards and procedures including safety, quality, environment.
    • To follow department work requests.
    • To provide clear status on task progress and workload.
    • To participate in team meetings as applicable.
    • To write, or contribute to continuous improvement of; work instructions, processes, test methods, etc.
    • To carry out engineering tasks using CNC and manually operated machines and hand tools.
    • To use a variety of measuring equipment.
    • To follow manufacturing layouts, routings, and control plans.
    • To complete the necessary supporting documentation for each works order and produce status reports when requested.
    • To set up of process to establish 1st off sign off and maintain required quality standard.
    • To identifying standard tooling and equipment required for area of responsibility and maintaining availability of these items, ordering replacements, segregation for regrind, storage.
    • To conduct front line maintenance and basic fault diagnosis within the limits of training on equipment used.

What we're looking for

Mandatory

    • Ability to understand engineering drawings and specifications.
    • Ability to understand GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing)
    • Ability to use and program CNC machines.
    • Ability to utilise a variety of manufacturing techniques.
    • Ability to use a variety of measuring techniques and types of equipment.

Desirable

    • Familiar with use of CAD models/ Solid Works or similar.
    • Good IT skills e.g. Microsoft Office.
    • Understanding of British and International standards relating to metrology.
    • Familiar with use of route cards, control plans and production of components to drawing.

Experience & Qualifications

Mandatory

    • Apprenticeship or experience in an Engineering related discipline; Mechanical, software, electronics, etc.
    • A good understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
    • Experienced in the manufacture to high precision tolerances (micron).
    • Data collection to qualify products / components as part of a quality system.

Desirable

    • HNC or other Engineering qualification.
    • Experience of working in a proto-type small batch environment.
    • GibbsCAM CAD/CAM software or similar PC-based computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) system for programming computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools.
