We’re on a mission to help

It’s no secret that COVID-19 has affected many lives, both personally and professionally. That’s why Networkers and its fellow sister brands within the Gattaca group, are on a mission to help as many people as we can during these troubling times.

Back in September, we vowed as a business to get 1,000 people back into work as quickly as we can and we’re already over a third of the way there. According to the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), the number of employees on UK payrolls dropped by nearly 650,000 between March and June of this year, which has had a massive impact on people’s lives.

STEM skills will be critical for helping economies and business restart, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t many candidates who have been impacted. For many, getting back into work improves mental health, puts food on the table and provides a sense of stability, so we consider this to be a vital goal and indeed responsibility for our business.

Here are a few ways we’ve been working towards this goal:

  • Aiming to include at least one out-of-work candidate for every client requirement that we are supporting around the world
  • Raising the profile of this initiative with our clients and encouraging them to be proactive in their support of this
  • Working with outplacement organisations and promoting our approach to the candidate community to encourage them to use our business as a route back to work

So far, we’re proud to have helped 526 candidates back into employment.

What about all the businesses that were affected?

We know that, although the impacts on us individually have been clear, there’s also the wider issue of unprecedented damage done to businesses as a direct result of COVID-19. As a ‘people’ business, we wanted to extend a helping hand wherever we can so we can help our clients adjust to the ‘new normal’ as quickly as possible. Our Group Director, Matthew Wragg, said:

“We want to do everything we can to help our customers through these difficult times. And whilst we’ve got a great range of talent solutions services available, we wanted to offer more. As such, we’ve pulled together as a Group and reached out to our valued partner network to provide our customers with a variety of events and resources to help them and their business in the post-COVID-19 world. From how to engage your staff in a remote environment, transforming your business, coordinating mindfulness sessions to help your personal wellbeing, to facilitating a roundtable event on how to embed diversity into your business, and much more in between, we’re here to help."

Our main method of providing our customers with helpful resources is through the new Insights Centre on the Gattaca website, which includes a calendar to all our virtual events (all of which are also available on-demand) and a range of free tools and resources that can help you achieve a variety of business goals.

To this day, we’re proud to have helped 863 client contacts with their workforce challenges through insightful webinars, helpful downloads, useful online tools and resources and one-to-one calls with internal and external specialists. We are seeking to help 10,000 individuals as quickly as we can.

Helping the community

Our passion for supporting people doesn’t just stop with our candidates and clients; one of our goals for this year is also to help the communities in which we operate and live.

As such, the Gattaca Group has partnered with Foothold, the IET benevolent fund. Our goal is to raise £100,000 to pay for a mental wellbeing hub which will be available to engineers, technologists and their families all over the world.

Although we can’t run events in-person as we have done previously, our staff have come together virtually to raise all-important funds to support the organisations helping those in need.

We kicked this off on World Mental Health Day (Saturday 10 October 2020), when the Gattaca Management Board took on an epic 112-mile journey of walking, running and cycling across the South of England to raise money for Foothold; a charity which supports engineers and their families with physical, mental health and financial challenges.

Aside from the physical target of completing the 112 mile distance, the team set themselves the challenge of raising £1,120 - £10 a mile. Instead they’ve raised an incredible £5,788.
