If so, an opportunity has arisen for a Packaging Technology Engineer to join us at Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S).

This role offers you an exciting opportunity to support the UK Armed Forces, advising on the requirements for packaging to ensure that equipment (non-munitions) is packaged to withstand many years of storage and extremes of handling and transportation. This includes transportation, via a wide range of vehicles across varied terrains, and temporary storage in harsh environments, such that when the end user opens the packaging the item is in the same condition as it left the factory and is fit for purpose.

As part of a small team, you will works with Industry partners, supporting in developing better approaches to Defence Packaging, including making it more sustainable as part of the greening government agenda. Other responsibilities include:
- Providing support to Delivery Teams and Industry on all aspects of Defence Packaging and in particular Military Level Packaging
- Providing support on sustainability and the environment in relation to packaging and packaging materials
- Supporting the maintenance of MOD information sources
- Supporting the maintenance of Non-Munitions Packaging Defence and NATO Standards
- Supporting the maintenance of the Military Packager Approval Scheme to include documentation, Company and Designer Certification and Audits
- Providing secretarial support to the PEAS (Packaging in Equipment and Acquisition Support) Forum
- Assisting with maintenance and provision of Defence Packaging training
- Maintaining regular contact with internal and external stakeholders, including Professional Bodies and other Packaging Trade Associations

What you will be assessed against

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

* You will hold a minimum of a Level 4 (e.g. HNC) qualification in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline, or will demonstrate the equivalent experience in packaging technology/engineering
* You will have experience supporting the delivery of successful packaging outcomes
* You will have knowledge associated with packaging technology/engineering

It will also benefit your application if you are able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

* Experience in industrial packaging
* Experience in the Defence industry
