The Job

We currently have new and exciting opportunities to join our team as a Project Manager with the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) at HMNB Devonport.

The first Base Maintenance Project (BMP) is currently in the planning stage, which is being managed by a fully integrated joint team constructed of our principal industry partners and the SDA. The first BMP will inform the future strategy for subsequent BMPs for the rest of the Astute-class, within a demanding and highly important UK defence programme stretching across the next 20+ years. The size of SDAs team is increasing, and it will continue to grow. You could have responsibility for the recruitment and continued professional development of our employees, enabled by access to outstanding specialist training within both the SDA and wider MOD.

Working within our Astute-class team, you will manage, oversee, and accept specific requirements of BMP planning and execution. This will be on behalf of the Project Controls Manger within the performance plan, cost and timeframe agreed. The project involves: the care and maintenance of nuclear submarines that are post-operational, and the service and decommissioning of old submarines.

This is an excellent and unique opportunity to utilise and build upon your project management tools including managing schedules, monitoring cost, and acting as an intelligence customer and assessing the key performance indicators (KPIs) against the contract.

Applicants should note that the role will be largely based in the HMNB Devonport dockyard, although there is some opportunity for flexible working.

Due to the secure nature of the position, this post is reserved for SOLE UK nationals only.

* Accountability for the delivery of project outputs within the performance/cost/time framework for a semi-complex project, multiple simple projects, or complex control accounts
* Ensuring the most cost-effective and efficient means of delivery, whilst mitigating risk and leveraging opportunities
* Embedding and adhering to all governance and policy and enable the required compliance throughout the team, ensuring appropriate challenge and gain approval to deviate when necessary
* Sustaining and leveraging value through the monitoring and management of contract performance against commitments (product and services) meeting obligations under the contract
* Supporting an open, honest, no blame culture. Actively highlighting failures and shortfalls positively and drawing through learning from experience into the project or control account
