Introduction

My client is looking for a experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Fibre Designer/Planner to join their growing team on a REMOTE basis (You MUST live in the UK).

The Job

Main Outline Duties and Person Requirement:

Network fibre design including

  • Work infrastructure and relay detailed information to enable detailed fibre network planning
  • Creation of detailed planning pack for build - construction, cabling, splice and test including all accompanying documentation for utility stats, street gazetteer, detailed network plans with work point instructions, CDM, Bills of Material etc
  • Collation of detailed packs sufficient for wayleave approval
  • Liaison with any local authority agents and any other third parties as part of overall planning role
  • Highlight and escalate major design variances to the planning base
  • Flexible approach in dealing with amendments to planned information
  • Ensure accurate completion of all planned submissions and work is completed on time
  • Become proficient to highlight and escalate major design variances through the project team
  • Knowledge of GIS systems

Network Planning including

  • Trunk cable overlays/upgrades
  • Strategic allocation of fibres
  • Collation of overview schematics, fibre SLDs & splice schematics
  • Records updates (Visio) for splice configurations and Network Overview schematics

GIS

  • Addition of new civils and cabling
  • Amending existing network based on confirmed survey data
  • Collation of through splicing and as-built data
  • Route Map production

Fibre Test Result Analysis to a pre-defined programme characterisation specification including

  • Interpretation of OTDR data and assessment against fibre SLD documentation
  • Assessment of ILM data to a PASS/FAIL criteria
  • Assessment of PMD & CD data to a PASS/FAIL criteria

Network Reconfiguration and Diversion Tasks

  • Survey packs to enable fibre engineers to assess existing network infrastructure (external and internal)
  • Assessment of existing records and on-site survey reports to identify existing live services
  • Civils and cabling packs associated with facilitating future network reconfigurations
  • Fibre splicing packs associated with live network cutover including overview schematics, fibre SLDs and splice schematics

The Typical personal attributes (skills, aptitude and understandings) might include:

  • Core and Access Fibre Network Planning experience
  • Civils Planning experience
  • Planning knowledge out to the customer premises across legacy and current Cable/Telco access network topologies
  • Proven track record of planning successful projects
  • A telecoms background coupled with a planning background is required for this position - you may have worked for one of the major UK telcos which would be an advantage, in particular Virgin Media
  • Attention to detail and accuracy coupled with a 'can do' attitude
  • Previous use of GIS systems would be useful - Gcomms, Smallworld, AutoCad
  • Ability to draw together different technical disciplines
  • Able to communicate with people across multiple locations and at different levels
  • Able to identify and work with key stakeholders inside and outside of the business
  • A total awareness and understanding of current health and safety procedures for working in the UK is essential
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and being PC literate - additional client specific applications will be required (training can be provided where necessary) - MS Excel
