Job description

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an engineering or systems integration background wanting to build on their experience by being the Engineering focal point in a diverse customer focussed team who continue to win export business. This role is varied and the daily challenges for personal development will change to fit the needs of the Sea Ceptor Export market, which is ever increasing in scope, complexity and requirement. The core 'New Business' team is small, with a large supporting network across the project and a wide group of business partners and Customers as enablers to success, providing a very diverse yet rewarding experience in winning Export business.

The key responsibilities will include:

    • Engineering and technical interface between bid team and project engineering teams. Leading Engineering teams to collaboratively generate rationalised, competitive and accurate costed bids and supporting documentation.
    • Manage and deliver engineering activities and studies required during the challenging, dynamic pre-contract phase of the programme. Shall provide clear guidance, support and leadership to engineering teams.
    • Opportunity to work closely with the Customer Sales, Commercial, Finance and Senior Management teams
    • Manage compliance to Export customer requirements, including direct customer engagement to discuss their needs and potential engineering solutions.
    • Maintenance of Engineering aspects of Sea Ceptor 'New Business', e.g. Generic bid documentation, identify future Export Engineering opportunities, technical reporting for 'New Business' and Engineering partners.

What we are looking for:

    • Ability to understand, scope and explain technical challenges and impacts derived from Customer needs and work with a broad range of engineering disciplines to ensure timely delivery of technical solutions, costed bids and supporting engineering activities.
    • Technical Project Management and facilitation skills in order to manage interdependencies and differing priorities and needs between multi-functional teams, resolving and diffusing arising conflicts and providing direction. Plus challenging the assumptions and costs proposed, ensuring they are robust, coherent and justifiable.
    • Strong interpersonal and well-developed communication skills (written & verbal), both internally and working with the customer, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the business
    • Complementary experience and knowledge from the defence (or similar complex engineering) industry, broad engineering disciplines and/or bidding activities.
    • Passionate about Export and winning new business, willing to work under pressure to meet demanding bid timescales and to travel if required.

    • The Bid team explain and justify the proposal and cost base at varying levels of company technical, programmatic and financial review to obtain timely approval for release. In doing so, you take responsibility for the engineering solution and have the opportunity for exposure to senior company board members in the process.
    • Manage engineering assessments and concept studies of varying length, complexity and scope. Working with a broad range of engineering, to mature conceptual and strategic developments to the Sea Ceptor product to meet increasing Customer capability needs.
