Working in a dynamic environment the Technical Architect is responsible for the technical design of applications and platforms within the IT estate, adhering to enterprise standards and best practices. The role works closely with stakeholders from across the business to deliver IT change that meets the needs of projects and programmes within the enterprise portfolio. In addition, the role sets out the technical roadmap for the various systems within their remit.


  • Maintain and manage the lifecycle and technical roadmaps for Airport Technology
  • Work with the Ground Operations team to gain an understanding of their strategy and define future requirements for Airport Technology
  • Work with the Enterprise Architecture team to input on the strategic technical roadmaps for the system and business capabilities
  • Ensure that infrastructure architectures are flexible and support the business needs by maintaining an understanding of business strategies and infrastructure capabilities
  • Ensure the IT architectural standards and practices are followed for the delivery of any change
  • Work with the Technical Design Authority to ensure that designs receive appropriate and timely governance, presenting technical solutions to TDA where required
  • Ensure the technical architecture documentation for the Airport technology domain is kept up to date and made available as required
  • Ensure both functional and non-functional requirements are met for system changes, ensuring that delivery teams meet standards around the quality of service, cost, security, maintainability, and supportability
  • Work with other Technical and Solution Architects to ensure design principles are adhered to in the creation of any new services, systems, or platforms


  • Understand a broad knowledge range of technologies and architectural approaches, methodologies, and frameworks with a pragmatic approach to their application and governance
  • Strong service attitude and commitment to building and documenting quality technical solution designs ensuring coverage of all functional and non-functional requirements such as performance and Information Security
  • Ability to deliver detailed technical architecture in a complex and changing landscape
  • Ability to lead vendors and participation in supplier forums to direct the future roadmap of the services
  • Understanding of commercial needs of the business and being able to demonstrate that services are cost-effective
  • Ability to translate complex architectural issues to non-technical staff within a business and to 3rd parties
  • Ability to challenge conventional ideas and assumptions related to operations services and solutions.
  • Ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of the business and IT
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences
