10 Reasons to work in recruitment

The traditional image of recruitment is changing. What used to be viewed as a “plan B” career is fast becoming the occupation of choice, earning a far more respectable reputation than in the past.

We interviewed two members of our internal recruitment team to find out the top 10 reasons to get into recruitment.

1. Money

This is an obvious reason to get into recruitment but in a company such as Matchtech who offers uncapped commission, the earning potential for a good consultant is vast.

2. Career security & opportunities

Despite the fact that the recruitment industry is heavily saturated, a successful recruiter is extremely marketable and can quickly climb the career ladder. Unlike most career choices, progression won’t be based on your qualifications or how long you’ve been at the company. If you work hard you progress fast.

3. Consultative approach

You are not just selling a product, you are consulting with clients to find out what they need to make their business grow and help them to find the right people to do that.

4. Global opportunities

A good recruiter has plenty of options and if worldwide travel or even moving abroad permanently is your goal then recruitment is the career choice for you. This is particularly true for global recruitment companies such as Networkers where consultants are given the opportunity to work in our offices abroad.

5. Specialise in your market

Once you have built up a good level of knowledge in the market that you recruit for, you gain the trust of both your clients and candidates. There will be no more cold-calling, all your clients will be exclusive and candidates will come to you via referrals. You will be treated with respect and clients will come to you to seek advice.

6. Measurable performance

In recruitment, work performance is very easily measurable. Whilst this doesn’t suit everyone, many thrive on the competitive environment and the ability to measure themselves against competitors and colleagues.

7. The thrill of winning

Nothing beats the buzz when you successfully place a candidate. The client is happy, the candidate is happy and this makes you happy. It can be very rewarding to know that you have helped move someone’s career forward.

8. Human interaction

If sitting quietly in a corner of an office sounds ideal then recruitment isn’t for you. A recruiter has to enjoy engaging with people as they spend the majority of their time speaking to clients and candidates, understanding their needs, keeping leads warm and networking.

9. Be a self-starter

No one will hold your hand in recruitment but you’ll have the freedom to come up with your own recruitment initiatives and in return be rewarded for it.

10. Perks

Top recruitment firms will usually offer sales incentives for target hitters which can range from a meal in a posh restaurant to all-expenses-paid trips abroad. Networkers, for example, offers amazing trips abroad to places such as Las Vegas, Miami, Ibiza and Marbella.

We are always on the lookout for motivated, ambitious and passionate people looking to join our team.
